What happens when someone scans?
Compatible phone scanners recognise the Wi-Fi details and may offer to join the network. Your router still controls access, coverage and internet availability; a QR does not create a new network.
Have these details ready
- The network name (SSID), copied exactly from the guest router.
- The correct security setting and password, or the open-network option if the network genuinely has no password.
- A guest network separate from staff devices and business systems where your router supports it.
How to create your guest wi-fi qr code
Check the guest network
Confirm which network visitors should use. Copy the name exactly, including spaces and capital letters. A dedicated guest network is a practical way to avoid handing out access to staff equipment.
Enter the connection details
The creator starts with Guest Wi-Fi selected. Choose the matching security option, enter the password if needed, and mark a hidden network only when it really is hidden. An open network has no password; the QR cannot make it private.
Preview and download
TapX generates the QR in your browser. The textual preview hides the password, but the QR itself contains it. Download a PNG, SVG or A5 PDF sign and label it as guest Wi-Fi so people know what scanning will do.
Test on visitor phones
Scan with both an Android phone and an iPhone used by your guests. Phone support can vary. If a scanner cannot join automatically, keep a staff-assisted connection option available rather than assuming every device behaves the same way.
Before you share or print
- Treat the QR as access to the guest network, not as a way to conceal its password.
- Do not post staff-network or private Wi-Fi credentials on public packaging or social media.
- Refresh the code after changing the SSID, password or security configuration.
A static QR stores fixed content. Read the free creator guide for expiry, privacy and print-format details, or get help from TapX.
Guest Wi-Fi QR code: questions answered
Does TapX upload my Wi-Fi password?
The creator generates the QR in your browser and does not upload QR details or logos. Only purpose, colour and language preferences may be saved locally. The downloadable code itself contains the network credentials.
Will a Wi-Fi QR work without mobile data?
A compatible phone can read the saved Wi-Fi details without mobile data. Connecting still requires being within range of the configured router; internet access depends on the network.
What happens after I change the Wi-Fi password?
The old static QR still contains the old password. Generate a new QR and replace your guest signs.
